On friday went to this place called Brotzeit with Tby at Vivocity. It’s a German restaurant where you can have typical Bavarian food like Bratwurst or cold cuts and Bavarian beer like Paulaner’s or Radlers. Ok I think we had an overdose of sausage for a day but hey, I like the place. Pretty spacious and makes me very reminiscent of my time in Germany. Now the strange thing is that the whole experience (esp. the menu) bears an uncanny resemblance to a German book I’m reading. Ok the story in the book goes like this, this American dude comes for the first time to Munich and stays at this host there where she cooks for him all these dishes and I swear it’s like almost in the same order! And there’s this one line, so funny…

"Wir sind dort echt bayerisch essen gengangen. Wie heisst es doch gleich? Brotzeit?"

So when Tby told me we should go eat at Brotzeit I was like, hey that sounds so familiar….

I forgot to bring my camera as usual, so no pics and camwhoring. Which really sucks because just before I left work that day I took in a very beautiful sight. My client’s place is at a very high floor in Boat Quay so you can take in the whole view at night which is very beautiful. I think the Singapore urban landscape is very pretty at night. So my seniors and I were oohing and aahing at this for quite some time. I only had my pathetic camera phone to take in this sight. Bah humbug.

night view

Yeah it’s taken at night. Yeah, my days of going home at 530 on the dot are long gone. Bleargh…

Anyway, was supposed to go watch a german movie yesterday but Day happily cancelled on us and anyway, I checked the tix already, everything is sold out for the german film festival. We really should have booked beforehand.

So went out with my parents and we ate at my (former) most favourite Indian restaurant in Singapore. I totally used to love Delhi restuarant. I can no longer claim to do so. It seemed different when I entered already. The decor and everything is the same but hey, there wasn’t a single Indian customer. All were ang-mohs. And the cute waiters are all gone. And the food SUCKS now. Ok, it definitely doesn’t suck for the ang-mohs but it sucks for the typical Indian palate. Totally not spicy and bloody bland and sometimes even sweet! What the @#$%#. VERY disappointed. Anyone can recommend me a good north Indian restaurant to go in Singapore that can take the place of Delhi restaurant? For south Indian food, my favourite is still Andhra Curry. Heh.

Ok, I’ve survived another week at work and I guess it’s not that bad. My senior pointed out something today that got me looking at it more positively and excitedly - we get to be busybodies and we have every right to poke our noses in others’ dirty laundry and you would, even if it were grudgingly, hand over your secrets for us to see. Hah! Beat that!

Anyway, it’s that time of the year - Diwali. Happy Diwali/Deepavali to one and all celebrating it tomorrow. We’re having some people over the next two days. Mostly N.R.Is (non-resident Indians) like ourselves who don’t really have kin in Singapore so we can’t go visiting relatives and all. They’re typically from neighbouring villages or districts back in India. This time last week we were out at Hotel Intercontinental Singapore having Mediterranean Seafood Buffet. It’s a tad overdue but I’ve been too lazy to post up these pics. The buffet was not all that spectacular but I guess it was a steal for the price we paid. It’s originally $45+++ but we had coupons and my brother pretended to be half his age so we only paid about $20 per person.

My brother in all his glory as a seven-year old. I told him he should feel right at home since he always acts like he’s seven anyway.

Eat your heart out

Eat your heart out some more

Eat your heart out yet some more

Ok fine I’ll stop.

:-) Happy Diwali!!!

Hey people, sorry for the overdue update. Been busy with school and all. I think I’m going rack up more long nights from now on. :-( Well at least the good part is that I’ve got good teams to work with. It’s easier to move forward when the going gets tough if you’re doing it with people you enjoy the company of. For example, I was working on a project with my team mates almost right up to 12 before my birthday (I was adamant on getting home before it struck 12 though!)

To celebrate my birthday I took my mom and my brother out for dinner. It’s this really good restaurant called Patara. I highly recommend the place. It’s really good, although a tad expensive, it’s pretty worth it. It’s Thai cuisine and the food is fantabulous. And the deserts are good, you can even have a desert buffet of assorted Thai deserts for $7. (I think a buffet’s too much and we couldn’t even finish the small platter!). I took this pic after everyone left but yeap, even though it’s tucked away in a corner in Tanglin mall, there were lots of people there.

On Wed, got stood up by Rnu again *rolls eyes* but thankfully Bab was there to save the day with Hoegardens! What will I do without Hoegardens! I kind of went overboard with my spending at Charles & Keith. I had the birthday discount and erm, got too many pairs. In retrospect, my shopping was probably rubbish again. More money will go down the drain with Zara sale!!! Grrr….

On Thurs, met up with Tby and Dy. Belated Birthday celebration at the secret garden. Kind of funny cos had a belated birthday celebration with Kw, Pj and Jx last year at the same place too. But thanks for the gift and the evening, was great. Too funny the damn candles. Couldn’t blow out at all. I’m still thinking it’s a conspiracy that it wouldn’t blow out! Look forward to the match tomorrow. Just met the german girls and they’re gonna come tomorrow too. I’m really hoping and praying that Germany wins!!! *fingers crosed*

Bloody candle…

Life, Movies, FoodTuesday, May 23, 2006

So I watched the Da Vinci Code last night with Dy and Tby. One word - boring. I had bought the book in India for a cool 60 rupees but never got round to finishing it. It was waaaaaay too yawn-inducing. I don’t really fancy detailed plots. I like engaging thrillers by John Grisham and Steve Martini but Dan Brown’s stuff is too much for me. The movie was just blah. Especially the beginning - could it be any more long winded? It didn’t help that there was no eye-candy whatsoever. The only thing cool about the movie was that every now and then, Dy, Tby and I would look at each other and say hey, we’ve been there!

Well anyway, I wanted to watch it for the sake of watching it and now I have. So now let’s get on with our lives. It seems to have generated a lot of interest. From campus crusaders claiming that the book is utter fiction and sects such as the Opus Dei coming under fire. I watched the BBC Hardtalk episode on the Opus Dei President in London and it was quite laughable (think Shane’s jab at Aras’ yoga).

Oh well, I tried out the food at Secret Recipe and for the first time, I saw a restaurant that charged for water. Bleargh. Anyway, the sales are starting soon and I’m looking forward to watching X-men next week. YET another movie I’m watching for the sake of watching. What happened to all the lame funny movies and romantic comedies that I love to watch? I hate overrated blockbusters and lame animated movies that seem to be the theme lately. Bah humbug.
